MARY

MARY'S LOVE FOR JESUS!

One day, not long before he died, while Jesus was in Bethany. He was invited to have a meal. Martha cooked a lovely meal. Lazarus, whom Jesus had raised from the dead was also there, at the table with them. It was a very happy time! Mary felt so much love in her heart for Jesus that day.

Jesus said he was going to be taken away. She thought "What can I give Him?" Then she remembered her special jar of very expensive perfume! "But what will everyone think, if I give Him that?" Then she made up her mind, "Well, I don't care what they think, I love Him!"

You know, it is a good thing to show that we love the Lord Jesus. How could you show that you love the Lord Jesus today?

Well, Mary went and got her bottle of perfume and poured it on Jesus' feet. It would have felt so cool and soothing for Jesus, after His long walk along the hot dusty roads. Then, instead of using a towel, she used her lovely, long hair to wipe His feet. The lovely smell of the perfume filled the house. Jesus would have felt really loved by her, wouldn't He? How glad He must have been!

But not everyone was happy. One of His disciples, Judas, who later on sold Jesus to His enemies, was angry. "What a waste," he said, "this perfume could have been sold and the money given to the poor." He said this, not because he cared for the poor but because he was in charge of the disciples' money and he used to steal some. But Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Mary knows that I'm soon going to die and be taken away from you all!"

It wasn’t long after this that Jesus was taken from Mary.  Jesus was put to death on a big cross, and buried in a cave. Mary was so glad that she had showed her love for him, when she could. You and I should show our love for the Lord Jesus today, while we can.
