We at P.D.C.E. see 'church' as a community of people. Everybody is valued and can add to the rich tapestry of community life. Being 'church' can take place in the church building or somewhere else. There are nearly 8.5 million people with disabilities in the U.K. which is about 1 in 7 people. We at P.D.C.E. recognise that people with disabilities aren't accessing all that the church has to offer.
When we hear the word disability we often get an image of physical disability, often represented by the wheelchair. however only 5% of people with a disability are wheelchair users. we do not forget those who have sensory impairments or have a learning disability. Any community activity should be accessible to all and this is not simply a matter of 'easy access'. 'Abled bodied' people if this site can be of help to you please feel free to use it. We see everybody as special.
Today we often hear about 'good church'. We see good church as one that welcomes everyone to its activities and regularly assesses the needs of those who attend. Any needs identified are addressed so that everyone can have equal access. there is no 'one size fits all'.
